Happy Campers - Rachel and David's wedding at Camp Cedarcrest
Rachel and David were married on June 6th with a ceremony and reception at Camp Cedarcrest in Orange, CT. I was just chomping at the bit to do this wedding, because I haven’t done one at a camp before, and I have been dying to get to do that!
Rachel and David met because they had a ton of mutual friends, and they would say hi when they saw each other, but they never got to know each other until one night they were out to support a mutual friend’s metal band. Neither of them is really into heavy metal, so they went outside to grab a smoke and talk about music all night. The rest is history!
David proposed last summer during a big, two-month cross-country road trip. After their first night of the trip and the “best day imaginable in New Orleans,” he proposed by the river. It made the whole road trip so much more fun as they told everyone they had just gotten engaged!
On Friday, I arrived in Connecticut to finally meet David and Rachel (we had only spoken on the phone or by email until then) and offered to shoot their rehearsal barbecue the night before the wedding. It was a great ice breaker and a good way to get the lay of the land!
The next morning, my best photog friend and second shooter, Joe Gonzoles-Dufresne, headed out to camp with me. When we arrived, everyone was driving around on golf carts and getting things set up. They had spent all night baking cakes and setting up most of the details!
I photographed Rachel and her friends and family; while Joe went down the hill to capture David and his friends having a few beers and shooting the breeze. We met up deep in the woods for the ceremony—and it was a gorgeous set-up! The couple stood on a large stone stage while the guests sat around them. And afterward, when both families stuck around for formals, I got to use one of the most stunning natural backdrops I have ever seen! The light was perfect, the weather was perfect, and the couple was perfect!
After formals, we went up to the reception area, and David and Rachel met up with the band for a traditional New Orleans second line to bring the guests over to the reception itself. After that, it was all about food, frolicking, and fun until the break of dawn!
Rachel and David, I could not have asked for a more magical location or couple to photograph. It was an amazing way to start off my wedding season for 2015 right! Thank you so much for opening your heart and families to me.
